ROLL UP POLICY (Draft Version, June 2010 - please submit any comments in writing to the committee by 3 July 2010)
- Members are entitled to roll up on greens designated by the bowls organiser or greenkeeper as available for practice.
- When scheduled games are in progress, roll-ups will not be permitted on the same green without the express permission of the bowls organiser.
- Permission will normally be given provided that members are appropriately dressed (e.g. in creams or uniform on Saturday) and do not create a distraction for bowlers in the scheduled games.
- Roll-ups must be concluded at least 30 minutes before the commencement of scheduled events unless express permission has been given by the bowls organiser.
- Roll-ups of more than two hours duration will attract a $5 per head green fee, payable over the bar on the “honour” system.
Principles Underpinning the Roll-Up Policy
- Club members have a right and are encouraged to practise whenever rinks are available, especially during championship and pennant seasons.
- Subject to greenkeeping and scheduling constraints the designated roll-up green will normally be the best running green.
- Championship events, pennant competition and other special tournaments or events have top priority for greens/rinks. Social bowls organised by the club have second priority, and after that member (and guest) roll-ups.
- Barefoot bowls will not normally be booked to the exclusion of all roll-up rinks. There may be a rare exception to this during peak barefoot bowls months (Nov-Dec) but any such exception will be advertised at least two days beforehand on the club noticeboard and will not occur immediately prior to major club events .
- Use of the greens should be governed at all times by commonsense, flexibility, fairness, respect for other bowlers and recognition of the legitimate needs of all club members.
- The bowls organiser of the day (the controlling body) is normally the arbiter on use of the greens but if no bowls organiser is present it will be the clubhouse duty manager.
- Club members wishing to play a competitive match with friends or other bowlers are expected – in fairness – to pay a green fee, just as they would if playing a social match organised by the club.
Notes:
- A “competitive match” is considered any roll-up between the same bowlers extending for two hours or more, whether scores are kept or not.
- Monday is normally a non-bowling day set aside for greenkeeping. Exceptions for special events may be made by prior arrangement with the greenkeeper.
- Regular scheduled bowls events are held:
- o Tuesdays 0930-1400 (except during women’s winter recess)
- o Wednesdays 1300-1615
- o Thursdays 0930-1400 (except during women’s winter recess)
- o Saturdays 1300- 1630
